A Good Story

There is nothing quite like a good story on cold evening, wrapped up in a warm blanket. As you sit relaxing into your favorite chair, reading through a story, it transports you to another dimension. You lose track of time, and your surroundings, seeing only the images the author has created in your mind’s eye. But then your phone rings, and it jolts you back to reality. Some of us get a little grumpy when this happens. Then you notice that phone call was really a reminder for your doctor’s appointment tomorrow. Phew! What a relief someone called to remind you.

Our lives can get that same way. We get so wrapped up in our own story that we forget about our other purpose in life. Wait, we have another purpose than just run this rat race?! Yes, we have a purpose with more meaning and fulfillment. In fact, it seems we are all looking for that “one” thing to fill the hole in our souls. You find people chasing the dollar, drugs, and other objects that temporarily fill the hole. Then people are on to the next “fix” to fill the hole.

However, there is something, or rather someone, that can eternally fill the hole. How can I be so sure? Because he has filled that hole in my soul more fully than anything else. Who is this person? If you guessed someone in my family, you are on the right track. That person was Jesus.

I found that when I truly leaned in to read the Bible, study what it said, and apply its principles, my life was more peaceful and fulfilling. When you study the Bible, it is important that you invite the author to come into the study to help guide you. The invitation, or prayer, does not have to be grand. Just ask God that the Holy Spirit  would come guide your time in study with Him. Who better to tell you what the Bible says, right?

This blog is meant to explore the Bible. I hope you join me on this journey.
